About Brian McGrath
Brian McGrath lives and breathes racing. He intended to follow his father Jim into the world of broadcasting and journalism, originally working on the racing desk of The Sun newspaper in London. However, his hands-on experience with horses, developed in his teens at a riding school in Surrey UK, was too strong. He needed to be working with them every day.
Brian’s first taste of life in a racing stable came with John Hammond at Chantilly, France, followed later by stints with the late Michael Jarvis and Roger Varian at Newmarket UK, Mike de Kock in Dubai and Eoin Harty in California.
After completing the Irish National Stud course, he won a place on the prestigious Darley Flying Start program, which entailed two years visiting studs and stables worldwide, with placements in some of them.
Brian then headed to Australia, where he worked for Chris Waller in Melbourne before branching out on his own in 2015, commencing at Cranbourne before switching to Pakenham with its state-of-the-art track and training facilities, which provide excellent options to get the best out of any horse.
Brian is now firmly entrenched in the Victorian training ranks, with a stable of promising horses of varying ages and hard-working, enthusiastic young staff.
